How Coast graduate landed dream job!

DREAM CAREER: Lauren Grounsell studied at the University of the Sunshine Coast and is now working for Visit Sunshine Coast.

LAUREN Grounsell hadn’t even graduated before she began a dream career which would take her from the Sunshine Coast to Sydney and back.

The University of the Sunshine Coast 2013 graduate tells no day is the same as she showcases the region in her latest appointment as a Visit Sunshine Coast PR and communications officer.

Ms Grounsell was among the lucky ones to find work in her industry during a period when USC undergraduates’ full-time employment rates were among the state’s lowest.

It started with hands-on learning and an internship at the Sunshine Coast Daily before she was offered a full-time position while in her third year of study.

Now, work-integrated learning is mandatory in all USC courses, and Ms Grounsell is proof of the value of accommodating lecturers who never considered any question “too small”.

Following the Daily, Ms Grounsell moved to Sydney to work on the lifestyle desk at the Daily Mail Australia before returning for her latest role.

She tells she even managed to fit a “belated gap year” between her professional pursuits.
