Migrant swim program ready to make a splash

Spending time at the beach and taking part in water-based activities is a fun and popular past-time on the Sunshine Coast. Everyone should have the chance to enjoy our wonderful lifestyle. Sunshine Coast Council and Royal Life Saving Society Queensland have partnered to bring FREE learn-to-swim and beach safety awareness sessions to migrant residents on the Sunshine Coast with the Migrant Learn to Swim and Beach Safe Program.

Migrant residents wanting to learn to swim, improve their swimming ability and confidence, and learn beach safety awareness are invited to attend.

The program includes seven weeks of water safety and swimming lessons. Lessons are at three local Aquatic Centres and two beach sessions at Bulcock Beach, Caloundra.

  • Pool sessions teach skills such as floating, wearing lifejackets, survival techniques and aquatic fitness. They are run by appropriately-qualified Aquatic Centre staff.
  • During the beach sessions participants will learn about the ocean, including things such as rips, currents, and safe and unsafe swimming locations. These sessions are run by Royal Life Saving Society Queensland lifeguards.

The program begins with a welcome session Saturday 13 March 2021. Learn-to-swim sessions then run every Saturday 20 March – 8 May 2021 (excluding Easter Saturday – 3 April).
